The short answer Nose strips mechanically support the nasal sidewalls and may make nasal breathing feel more open during running, especially when restriction is felt near the nostrils. However, easier-feeling nasal airflow is not the same as proven performance improvement. Treat a strip as a comfort and routine tool—not a shortcut to a faster race.

What a nose strip actually changes

An external nasal strip sits across the lower bridge of the nose. Its flexible bands attempt to return to their original shape, creating a gentle outward pull on the skin and soft tissue beside the nostrils.

The evidence is mixed because studies measure different outcomes. A strip can change nasal resistance or subjective airflow without necessarily improving whole-body exercise performance.

Sweat resistance depends heavily on what happens before the session. Sunscreen, moisturiser, facial oil and damp skin can prevent the adhesive from making full contact.
