Do nose strips help running?
Nose strips can make the front of the nasal airway feel less restricted for some runners. That may improve breathing comfort—but research does not show a reliable boost to speed, VO₂ max or endurance in healthy athletes.

What a nose strip actually changes
An external nasal strip sits across the lower bridge of the nose. Its flexible bands attempt to return to their original shape, creating a gentle outward pull on the skin and soft tissue beside the nostrils.
This targets the front of the nasal airway, particularly around the nasal-valve area. It does not enlarge the lungs, increase the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood or replace the need for mouth breathing when exercise intensity rises.
Airflow comfort is different from athletic performance

- A guaranteed faster pace or personal best

What does the evidence say?
The evidence is mixed because studies measure different outcomes. A strip can change nasal resistance or subjective airflow without necessarily improving whole-body exercise performance.

Where nose strips may fit across a run
At higher intensities, the body generally needs more ventilation than nasal-only breathing can comfortably supply. A nose strip does not mean you should force your mouth closed during hard exercise.
How to keep a strip secure through sweat
Sweat resistance depends heavily on what happens before the session. Sunscreen, moisturiser, facial oil and damp skin can prevent the adhesive from making full contact.
Avoid applying adhesive to broken, irritated, sunburnt or freshly shaved skin. Remove slowly with warm water after the session.
Test the strip in training—not for the first time on race day
Use similar routes, weather and intensity so you can judge comfort without confusing the result with a completely different session.

- Obstruction that needs medical or structural assessment
